Just like humans, healthy grass plants, require a steady flow of nutrients (plant food) throughout the growing season. Our gold, platinum, and diamond lawn care plans all provide your lawn with a balanced variety of nutrients to achieve the highest level of turf quality and health. We use slow release, organic-based nitrogen sources, as well as micronutrients in our fertilizer program for your lawn and landscape.
A weed is defined as any plant that is growing in an area in which it is not desired. This could mean grass growing in a landscape bed, a dandelion in a lawn, or crabgrass in a lawn to name a few. Our comprehensive weed control program uses integrated pest management strategies to rid your lawn of undesirable plants. The goal is to create a healthy lawn that will resist weed encroachment. We use targeted preventative and curative approaches to control all weeds on your property.
Our tailored approach to pest management also applies to insects. We use preventive controls to target white grubs at their most vulnerable stage of their life cycle. In addition, we use preventive measures throughout the entire growing season to control surface feeding insects. Surface feeding insects include fleas, ticks, chinch bugs, and fall army worms.
Maintaining a healthy soil pH is critical to maintaining a healthy lawn. Cool season turf grasses require a soil pH that is slightly acidic. In severely acidic soils, nutrient uptake by turf grass plants is severely inhibited. This means that fertilizer applications can be as much as 25% less effective under severely acidic soil conditions. Calcium or magnesium-based lime applications raise the soil pH to an optimum level for healthy turfgrass growth and establishment. The Bluegrass team can check your soil pH on site and make a lime recommendation as part of your free service quote.
Disease spores are ever present in all turfgrass ecosystems. Under certain weather conditions, some turf diseases can attack your lawn and cause decline or even death. At Bluegrass, we use a one-two punch approach to preventing and controlling lawn diseases. We promote a healthy soil environment by providing all of the required micro nutrients throughout the season. Lawn disease pressure is greatly reduced when all plant required nutrients are at recommended levels. Under the Diamond Lawn Care Service, we preventatively treat the turf with fungus control products at the appropriate time(s) throughout the season.
Gone are the days of mechanically aerating turfgrass. No more messy soil plugs, no more broken dog fences, no more broken sprinkler heads. At Bluegrass, we have embraced a new technology called microbial aeration.
This process is the simple application of a carbon sourced product that can add and reestablish the microbial population in your lawn. Soil microbes are essential for healthy soil and turf grasses. Overtime soil, microbe populations decline, and microbial aeration replaces soil microbes, while also providing them with a food source, which creates pore space in the soil, and improves air, and water flow through the soil profile. It also creates a great environment for root penetration if the lawn needs additional overseeding. Microbial aeration can be performed in a fraction of the time of mechanical aeration with no damage to existing lawn. Microbial aeration will affect 100% of the lawn surface, instead of having to stay away from edges and certain grades due to machine limitations with a mechanical aeration.
